About The Event

The reading proficiency of African-American students in California is alarming. This ground- breaking documentary was launched by actor LeVar Burton of The Reading Rainbow and Oakland educator Kareem Weaver, to show how the Science of Reading is improving student reading skills. The film is followed by an interactive and informative panel discussion with community stakeholders.

According to the film’s director, Jenny Mackenzie, 'The Right to Read' documentary is a “game-changer”.

Parents of African-American children, educators who teach them, and the community that supports them, will learn how the Science of Reading works. Together we can improve reading outcomes for students of African-American descent.  For more information, email oeabe.info@gmail.com.
